A Company with a Heart
Corina Carroll has always had a heart for people who need a little extra support in life. That’s why she’s so happy in her role as executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley.
“I’ve worked with children and youth since 1992, often working with youth who were homeless or at risk of being homeless,” she remembers. “I talked to youth about the lack of connection and support in their childhoods and I knew that I wanted to work with a credible organization focused on prevention.”
Her work with Big Brothers Big Sisters is very satisfying. She values hearing the positive feedback from both mentors and children about the impact that is being made in their lives. Having this perspective also influenced her decision to choose ShredMasters when she was looking for shredding options for the office.
“I researched the providers in the area and as soon as I saw that ShredMasters benefitted Communitas and those served through Communitas, I knew that was the provider we wanted,” she says.
For Corina, it made a difference that ShredMasters (and ValleyRecycling) supports people with mental health challenges and developmental disabilities. As the executive director of a charity, she understands the importance of providing opportunities for community members who need support. Knowing that ShredMasters provides employment and training through these social enterprises makes this the right choice for Big Brothers Big Sisters. But as executive director, Corina knows she has to be a good steward of the funds that are donated to her organization. The fact that ShredMasters is also cost effective is equally important to her.
Corina says that her experience with ShredMasters has been positive right from the first inquiry to today.
“I think that it is clear when a business has a heart and ShredMasters really does,” she says. “It’s an organization that thinks outside the box.”
